Girl… Life Been Lifin': Gas, $300 Electric Bills & Whatever Season This Is...

Girl... life been lifin'.

I don't even have some deep, inspirational message for y'all this week. I'm just here to ask one simple question:

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!

First of all, gas is fucking high. I mean... sigh. Every time I pull up to the pump, I feel like my car and I need to have a serious conversation about whether wherever we're going is actually necessary. Because at these prices? Baby, we might need to stay home.

And while we're discussing things that make absolutely no sense, can somebody please explain the weather?

Hot. Cold. Hot again. Cold again. Summer. Fall. Damn near winter. Back to summer.

WHAT SEASON IS IT FOR REAL?!

I'm ready to turn this damn air conditioner off, but apparently Mother Nature is going through something and has decided we all need to participate. Meanwhile, my electric bill is sitting around $300, looking at me like I'm the problem.

Just ghetto.

Then I noticed it's getting dark around 7 instead of 9, and here comes the seasonal sadness.

But not for the reason you think.

I'm not depressed because summer is ending.

I'm depressed because the "BER" months are expensive as hell.

September.

October.

November.

December.

Cute little months, aren't they?

Halloween shit, Thanksgiving food, Christmas lights, Family gatherings blah blah blah blah blah

LIES AND EXPENSES.

Because every year those adorable little "BER" months show up and start reaching directly into my bank account. Fall decorations. Holidays. Food. Gifts. Events. Birthdays. And speaking of birthdays...

Apparently, I'll be 49 in four months.

We're not unpacking that today.

That deserves its own blog because I have QUESTIONS.

But despite the weather having multiple personalities, everything costing entirely too much, the world feeling like one long breaking-news notification, and adulthood continuing to adult without my permission, I have discovered one tiny bright spot:

Instacart.

Listen.

Whoever decided I should be able to sit comfortably in my house, add groceries to a virtual cart, and have somebody bring them directly to my door deserves good things in life.

Because physically walking around a grocery store?

Sooooooooooooo 1999.

You mean to tell me I'm supposed to get dressed, drive there using my expensive gas, find parking, walk through 37 aisles, stand in line, load everything into my car, drive home, and then carry it inside?

In this economy?!

Absolutely not.

And maybe that's where my profound life lesson is supposed to go, but girl... I don't have one this week.

Sometimes life isn't a beautiful lesson wrapped in a bow. Sometimes life is expensive gas, a ridiculous electric bill, confused weather, getting older, the world being chaotic, and being irrationally happy that somebody else picked up your groceries.

And you know what?

Maybe that's enough.

Maybe getting through adulthood isn't always about having everything figured out. Maybe sometimes it's about finding the little things that make an already complicated life just a little easier.

So yes, life has been lifin'.

My air conditioner is still running.

My electric company is apparently preparing for early retirement.

The "BER" months are coming for my wallet.

I'm turning 49.

And my groceries will be arriving between 5:00 and 7:00.

We move.

Until next time,

Stay rebellious.
